Look at this piece of fish. Just look at it. Bubbly, buttery, brown, sticky, sweet, and glazed. Glory. It’s the kind of dish you want to have in your weeknight tool belt. Seriously. It comes together in less than 20 minutes. For me, that’s a huge win. Let’s get into some details.

- 2 Garlic Cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil

Why is the Salmon Broiled Instead of Baked?
I like this method for cooking my salmon because the broiler provides a fast and intense heat that adds texture to the exterior of the fish, without overcooking the center.
Can I Bake the Salmon Instead?
Of course! You’ll want to use a meat thermometer to ensure that it reaches your preferred internal temperature. Just know that this will result in a softer, more pale exterior. You can counteract this by placing the salmon under the broiler, just toward the end of cooking.
Salmon Temperature Guide
This is the temperature you will look for on your instant read thermometer to ensure that the salmon is done to your liking. Remember, that you can go a few degrees below your desired temperature, because the residual heat will continue to cook the salmon after it is removed from the oven.
- Rare– 120° F
- Medium Rare– 125° F
- Medium– 130° F
- Medium Well– 135° F
- Well Done –140° F
How to Make Broiled Orange Sesame Glazed Salmon
- Move top oven rack to the center of the oven, and set the oven broiler to high. We don’t want the glaze on top of the salmon to burn.
- Using a paper towel, pat the salmon dry and season generously with salt and pepper. Season until your spirit tells you to stop. Just make sure the salmon is evenly coated.

- Place the salmon on a foil lined baking sheet and set aside. In a sauce pan, over medium-low heat, add the butter and heat for about one minute.
- Add the garlic to the pan, and sauté for about 30 seconds, or until just fragrant. Stir frequently to ensure that the garlic does not burn.
- Increase the heat to medium, and add the sesame oil, orange marmalade, soy sauce, and ground ginger. Stir with a whisk.
- Cook for about 3 minutes, or until bubbling.

- Coat the salmon in the glaze while it is still hot. (It will thicken as it cools and become more difficult to spread.)
- Cook for about 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the salmon reaches 130°F
- Remove from the oven, coat with sesame seeds, and allow to rest for at least 5 minutes (the residual heat will continue to cook the salmon).
- Top with chopped green onion (optional) and serve.
