Peace family,
If you follow my insta-stories you’ll know that smoked salmon runs through my veins. Okay, that’s a bit over-dramatic, but I do love the stuff. Everything about it is appealing to me. The flavor, the healthy fat, even the texture. I love it in the morning on my avocado toast – this is actually my favorite way to enjoy it. It’s also great with egg toast. Throw a little “everything bagel” seasoning on top and you’re all set.
This love affair only began within the past few years though. Prior to living with my husband you couldn’t get me to even touch the stuff, but he ate it religiously. After much – and I do mean much – protest he finally convinced me to try it. This is such an extremely cliche phrase to use, but I can’t think of any other way to describe it. Ready? Here goes. It was *gulp* love at first bite. Cue the groans and the eyerolls. Smoked salmon now plays a role in my breakfasts, snacks, charcuterie boards, and more.
It can also be used for – you guessed it- dip. Listen. Get all the way into this smoked salmon dip. It’s creamy, briny (in a good way), has that ever-important umami factor, and is just plain delicious all the way around. Plus it’s oh-so-easy. That’s always a bonus.
Let’s get into some details.
What Ingredients Do I Need?
- 6 ounces Smoked Salmon – there are tons of grocery store varieties of smoked salmon. Many of them are flavored/seasoned. My recommendation for this recipe is to purchase a plain version to avoid any conflicting flavors. Now, if you want to be adventurous and buy honey lemon sriracha banana smoked salmon then by all means, live your life! Just be advised that it may not translate well when it comes to this specific dip.
- 1 cup Cream Cheese, softened – I would not recommend opting for the low-fat version as you may lose a bit of the creaminess that this dip needs.
- ½ cup Sour Cream – full fat works best!
- ½ cup Chopped Green Onion
- 2 teaspoons Diced Shallot
- 2 teaspoons Minced Garlic
- 3 teaspoons Dill – I used dried dill for this recipe.
- ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- ¼ teaspoon Kosher Salt

How to Make Keto-Friendly Smoked Salmon Dip
- Start by roughly chopping the smoked salmon into small pieces. A very sharp chef’s knife works best as the flesh will be cold and slightly more difficult to get a clean cut through.
2. Chop the vegetables – green onion, garlic, and shallot.
3. Add the softened cream cheese to a small mixing bowl and use a spoon to stir until creamy and smooth. If your cream cheese has not yet had time to soften, you may choose to warm it in the microwave for up to 25 seconds.
4. Add the sour cream to the cream cheese and continue stirring until well incorporated.
5. One at a time, stir in the remaining ingredients – the chopped smoked salmon, green onion, minced garlic, dried dill, black pepper, onion powder, salt, and shallots. Continue stirring until a creamy smooth dip forms and ingredients are distributed evenly (versus being clumped up in one area).
Notes:
- For an even easier process, you can prepare the onion, shallot, and garlic a day or two before and store them (sealed) in the refrigerator. That way, when it’s time to make the dip, all that’s left to do is chop the salmon, and throw everything in a bowl.
- You may opt to purchase a little extra smoked salmon to top the dip with for presentation purposes, as shown in the accompanying images for this recipe.
- This recipe only calls for ¼ teaspoon salt. If you taste your dip and find that it needs more, feel free to adjust the salt, a little at a time.
That’s it! It’s super easy and requires nearly zero effort (besides shopping, *eyeroll*) but is packed with tons of flavor. This dip is the definition of crowd-pleaser. It works great for potlucks, family gatherings, holidays, and movie night! It can also make an elegant appetizer for occasions such as New Year’s Eve.
As usual, try it out and let me know what you think. When you make, be sure to tag me on Instagram so that I can show off how awesome you are. While you’re there, join the family. I’d love to have you around.
Peace,
